Movie Therapy

Feeling like you are burning the candle at both ends?  Watch a movie from the 1950s; it’s good therapy for the busy life.  Movies from the 50s have some unique qualities that can help us slow down, take a breath and have a better perspective.  Just like going away for a short vacation can help us “reset,” a 2-hour 1950s movie can give “reset” benefits.

Movies from the 50s have a slower pace, good plots, and excellent actors and actresses.  They can entertain with drama, suspense, comedy and action all without profanity, sex, blood or CGI.  People actually acted and entertained without all the stuff that fills our movies, and even TV today.

Warning!!!  You may be tempted to turn it off or find something else to watch because you start to feel bored with the slower pace.   If you’re feeling bored within 15 minutes, it’s probably an indicator that you NEED a slow-paced movie to help “reset” your expectations.  It may be that you have already become addicted to today’s fast-paced nonsense, and a slow-paced movie is exactly what you need to break the cycle.

The best actors and actresses from the 50s are among Hollywood’s best ever, and are worthy of comparing to today’s best talent. Many 1950s movies can be found on YouTube or most streaming services.

1950s movies are timeless classics that represent a great American era of work and talent.  Their lack of profanity, sex, blood and CGI represent an entirely different style of movie making.  Their pace and plot styles help us to reset our day, and can truly be therapeutic.  Just what the Dr. ordered, or in this case, just what Dr. Strangelove ordered (sorry, Dr. Strangelove was 1964) ((What’s a couple of years)).

Here’s a list of the best movies from the 50s.  My favorites are in color.

Extra:

Westerns were in their hay-day in the 1950s, but as you can see, no westerns made the top ten list from imdb, and only two made the honorable mention list from watchmojo.  For your pleasure, I submit a link to the top 100 westerns (movies and TV) as listed by Cowboys and Indians Magazine.  I reviewed the list and counted about 20 that I HAVEN’T SEEN.  Some of the TV series I’ve only seen a few episodes. After all, Gunsmoke ran for 20 years, so it’s hard to see them all.  Apparently, there is still work to be done, there’s always retirement.https://www.cowboysindians.com/2016/11/100-best-westerns-ever-made/
